  • Shoulder Stand Series: Part IV MATSYASANA: Fish Pose 🧘 This is the perfect counterpose for the other positions in our Shoulder Stand Series. How to do it? 1. From a lying position, arch the back and place the palms on the floor on either side of the thighs or hips. 2. Use the arms for support to lift the head and rest the crown of the head on the floor. 3. Point the toes. Hold the position and breathe for up to 15 breaths. 💁 Benefits: - Relieves inflammation. - Helps in cases of asthma and bronchitis, as it supports healthy respiration. - Recirculates stagnant blood in the back, alleviating backache. - Regulates the function of the thyroid gland and stimulates the thymus gland, boosting the immune system. - Stretches the intestines and abdominal organs; it is useful for all abdominal ailments. In cases of constipation, drink three glasses of water and then perform this asana.   • It is so easy to get lost in hustle and bustle of our daily lives. With the pace that we are moving, and with the momentum of technological development continually ramping up, we can often end up feeling like we're not quite “here.” 👤 We easily lose track of the present—where we are, and why we are going where we are going. We might even lose touch with major inner developments that shifted while we weren’t looking. If you’ve found yourself falling into this pattern, meditation is a great way to come back to the present. In addition, any activity that engages you, grounds you, or reminds you why you are where you are is the perfect practice to get you back in touch with yourself. Walking is a personal favorite. Sometimes I find myself needing an upbeat, fast-paced, brisk walk; other times, I crave a slow, meditative one at the end of the day to review where I am. While walking, I can ask myself questions, and actively listen to my own mind's answers. I can contemplate my daily responsibilities, long term goals, ongoing feelings of gratitude.   • KARNAPIDASANA: Knee to Ear Pose 🧘 This is an escalated practice of Halasana, also known as "Ear Pressure Pose." In Sanskrit “Karna” = Ear and “Pida” = Force. How to do it? 1. First, perform Halasana as instructed in the previous post. 2. Lift the hips up toward the ceiling and bring the knees to the ears. 3. Keep the legs parallel, pressing the knees to the ears and the top of the feet to the floor. 4. For extra support, place your hands on the lower back on either side of the spinal cord. 5. Hold the pose for about five breaths, then slowly release the pose by bringing your hands down to the mat and unfolding, vertebra by vertebra, until you are lying straight on the floor. 6. Follow this asana with Matsyasana (Fish Pose) as a counterpose. 🙆 Benefits: - Helps to dissolve ear problems, since the knees put pressure on the ears, stimulating the nerves around this area. - Purifies the body and psyche. - Regulates vitality and energy flow. - Fosters focus and productivity. - Stretches and strengthens the spine, keeping the bones of the back flexible and enabling a full range of motion and strength. - Improves digestion. - Supports the thyroid glands.   • Shoulder Stand Series: Part II Halasana: Plough Pose 💆 If possible, perform this asana immediately after SARVANGASANA. How to move from SARVANGASANA to HALASANA? 1. Softly bring the feet together overhead balance. 2. Slowly remove your hands from your back and bring them together to the floor, interlacing the fingers. 3. Relax the body and slowly lower the legs over the head, keeping them straight, until your toes touch the floor. 4. Come down slowly by placing your hands back down on the mat and gradually lowering vertebra by vertebra until your back reaches the floor. Or you can go straight to the next asana in "Shoulder Stand Series Part III: Karnapindasana." Benefits: - Diaphragm movement in Halasana massages the internal organs and activates digestion. - Relieves constipation and dyspepsia. - Revitalizes the spleen and the suprarenal glands. - Promotes the production of insulin by the pancreas. - Improves the function of the liver and kidneys. - Strengthens abdominal muscles and relieves spasms in the back. - Tones the spinal muscles and increases blood circulation to the whole area. - Regulates the activity of the thyroid gland, which balances the body's metabolic rate. - Supports the immune system.   • Carrots are a classic vegetable that many of us know and love, and have many benefits: 💁 Give your skin a natural golden glow Support your eyes Strengthen your nails and hair (high beta-carotene content, AKA provitamin A) The best way to absorb their nutrients is by eating them raw. Nevertheless, a healthy carrot cupcake will help anyone eat them in a fun, delicious, and disguised way (perfect for children!). Carrot Cupcakes 🥕 Ingredients (Yields 6 cupcakes) Wet ingredients: - 1 crushed medium banana - 2 eggs - 1/4 cup natural greek yogurt - 2 tbsp coconut oil - 1 tsp vanilla extract - 1 1/2 cup almond milk - 1/4 cup coconut sugar - 1 cup grated carrot Dry ingredients: - 1 1/2 cups oatmeal - 1/2 tsp baking powder - 1/2 tsp baking soda - 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon - 1/8 tsp salt 🥕 Preparation: 1- Preheat the oven to 180°C or 350°F and grease your cupcake pan with coconut oil. 2- Place all the wet ingredients in one bowl and the dry ingredients in another bowl. Mix the two bowls separately, then slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Make sure to mix them very well until there are no lumps. 3- Pour the final mixture into your cupcake pan filling each cup only 3/4 of the way full. 4- Bake for approximately 30 minutes. 5- Let the cupcakes cool down and decorate them with whatever you want!
