YAMA is the first limb of Yoga.

Yama = "to regulate", in Sanskrit.

It is a collective name for MORAL COMMANDMENTS, the root of the UNION discipline.

There are 5 YAMAS:
- AHIMSA: NON VIOLENCE
- SATYA: TRUTH
- ASTEYA: NON THEFT
- BRHAMACHARYA: NO SEXUAL MISCONDUCT
- APARIGRAHA: NON-POSESIVENESS

YAMA is, therefore, the strong base for the appropriate path towards enlightenment. And the correct seed has to be planted with AHIMSA, NON VIOLENCE.

  • I don’t blame you for loving a good sugar rush. Those cravings can make a late-night chocolate mission seem like a vital task. But even I, a well-known client at my local candy store, realize that this obsession can ruin my health in the long run. 
Cutting off sugar feels overwhelming, especially when your brain is ranting about it. Sugar is a big dopamine trigger and, like many illegal substances, it's highly addictive. 
Think of oatmeal as a sugar detox partner—an ally in your rehab process. Oats can enhance blood sugar control by improving insulin sensitivity, and they also provide a fair amount of protein per serving. Additionally, the natural viscosity and beta-glucan delay the digestion of oats in your stomach, directly increasing your feeling of fullness. 
Besides eating oatmeal, there are few baby steps we can all take to transform our sugar cravings in a healthy way:
1. Eat a protein-rich breakfast.
2. If you're hungry, drink water first. You may just be dehydrated.
3. Replace high-carb foods with low-sugar ones, like an oatmeal bowl.

  • When practicing Shavasana, try to not fall asleep and avoid wearing tight clothing that might distract you. Keep your mind focused by letting stray thoughts pass without giving them attention. Keep your spine aligned and eyes closed while avoiding any movement of your body.

If you've ever done yoga, it's very likely that you've ended your session lying on your back on the floor in Shavasana—also known as Corpse Pose. Though it may look like the most effortless posture, it’s ironically one of the most difficult to practice! In order to correctly perform this asana, the Sanskrit word for "posture" or "pose," you must completely relax your body and quiet your mind.

We usually practice Shavasana at the end of a yoga session, which represents one of the main differences between yoga and other kinds of exercise. In yoga, we aim to finish the practice physically relaxed and clear-minded in order to integrate all the benefits from the session.

Here's how to perform Shavasana:
1. Lie down with your back on the floor.
2. Spread your legs hip-distance apart and let your feet fall to the side. Toes are turned outwards, and heels are facing each other.
3. Bring your arms away from your body, and turn your palms upwards.
4. Relax your neck by bringing your chin close to your chest, so your cervical vertebrae are stretched.
5. Close your eyes and focus on your body. Scan it from the soles of your feet up to your crown, checking that you are not holding tension anywhere.
6. Relax entirely and focus on your breath.

When practicing Shavasana, try to not fall asleep and avoid wearing tight clothing that might distract you. Keep your mind focused by letting stray thoughts pass without giving them attention. Keep your spine aligned and eyes closed, while avoiding any movement of your body.

Try practicing this asana at night if you experience difficulty falling asleep as it is very effective at helping calm both your mind and your body.

  • I, a mere mortal and a junk food eater, want to be a healthier, conscious, better version of myself. Without losing my scarce sanity or setting the house on fire in the attempt. 
Let’s go step by step. Getting rid of old eating habits that we love can be challenging. To start, we can pay attention to things we don’t usually eat and look for the real reasons why we’re not looking for a healthier option. 
My example today is oatmeal. Oatmeal for me was tied to a childhood memory where I ate it out of obligation, not for taste. Offering me oatmeal for breakfast was a crime: “That thing that looks like warm barf? I'd rather starve until lunch, thanks.” After breaking this thought down, I realized that oatmeal is a no-brainer meal. It provides a blast of nutritional benefits, and there are infinite tried and true recipes we mortals can replicate. 
A useful piece of advice I can share is to dare. Dare to add your own banned ingredients, little by little, to your meals. Overnight oatmeal never tasted better, I swear.

Eight Limbs of Yoga - Part I

Yoga is a way of living, is a discipline that teaches how to live in a state of UNION. The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word YUJ that means union. It is the union of the body the mind and the soul, the unity of the individual consciousness with the universal truth is the ultimate goal.

And as magical as it sounds Patanjali (yoga master), the author of the Yoga Sutra, left us a guideline on how to achieve this liberation. 
The eight-fold Yoga Path will guide us on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. They serve as a prescription for self-discipline, moral and ethical conduct; they direct attention towards one´s health, and they help us acknowledge the spiritual aspects of nature. 💟
This is the Eight Limbs of Yoga:
1. YAMA - moral aspects
2. NYAMA - self-discipline
3. ASANA - postures
4. PRAYANAMA - mastery over the breath
5. PRATYAHARA - withdrawal of all senses
6. DHARANA - single object concentration
7. Dhyana - meditation
8. SAMADHI - connection to the divine
